Nadja Brečević is a Swedish photographer and artist educated at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg. Through photography and moving image, Brečević explores the interplay between reality and imagination. Her projects blend personal memories and folklore, creating narratives that span between the documentary and the fictitious. Drawing inspiration from places related to her family background, Brečević focuses on cultural identities and mythological connections in the Balkan Peninsula.

A recurring motif in Brečević's works is her symbiotic relationship with the mountains in Croatia, especially Velebit. Both the symbolic significance and the personal emotional attachment are important. Brečević investigates how our sense of self is influenced by the places we inhabit, balancing the challenge of moving beyond the past while making sense of it.
